"Call this person on Thursday." Defaults to OPEN work, soonest first, because the question this list exists to answer is what somebody still owes — a list that opens with last month's completed rows answers a different one.

Dated work sorts before undated: a to-do with no deadline is legitimate, and sorting nulls first would bury every deadline behind them. For the same reason an undated task is never overdue.
